Great Dane Assistance League, Inc.

There always comes a difficult time when dealing with rescued dogs. You bring in a dog that you hope you can help but in the end must make a very difficult decision. Daisy was one such Dane.

Daisy was a Dane that didn't have a chance from the start. She was not raised correctly, kept locked up most of the time and never had the chance to be a pup. Daisy never learned how to even be a dog.

Sadly what she did learn is to not trust. To be scared. To not know how to show love. All she was shown was neglect. All of this caused Daisy to attack and sadly bite her foster. While we are very glad no one was seriously hurt we know that Daisy never had a fair chance from the time she was born. Daisy is now free of all her demons. We all feel we failed Daisy somehow. But in the end, we had to let her go. We will always remember Daisy. She shows how the hope of a wonderful Dane pup can be diminished by neglect, lack of attention and mistreatment by the human species.

Echo was our first foster. She was only 8 months old. So scared, and not sure of her life. Well she was only fostered about 30 seconds and we knew she was going to be a permanent part of our family.

Echo had a wonderful 9 1/2 years with us. She was our Princess. Over the years she grew more confident and was a wonderful Great Dane.

When the time came, we held her. Told her we loved her. Then we let her go. We are so grateful that she came into our life and she gave us so much love and joy. We will always have Echo in our hearts.

Belle was the first Dane that Great Dane Assistance League, Inc. rescued. She was found just dumped on the side of the road. Belle's life had been very hard. She suffered with separation anxiety and really hated thunderstorms. However, Belle was the sweetest and most loving Dane. How anyone could just dump her is beyond us.

Belle then met Julie and Gerd and she found a home. Her life took a major turn for the better. She found herself in a family that loved her and took care of her. She even had brothers and sisters to play with. That was six years ago.

On 07/26/2008 Belle left this world in the arms of Julie to join her brother Montana. Belle was 12 years of age. Everyone at GDALI is saddened by this news. Belle will always hold a special place in our hearts.

Belle

We lost her on 14 June 2008.  She graced our lives for 4 wonderful years.  Her favorite things were running with her mom, laying in the cool grass while she sniffed the breeze, and snuggling under the covers in the morning with her dad.  She loved every human she ever met.  She was a sweet and wonderful dog who left us much too soon.  We are grieving our loneliness but celebrating the joy she shared with us for those 4 years.  When we adopted her she was a measly 75 pounds (on her should be 120 pound frame) and riddled with heartworms.  We saw her through that easily and enjoyed every day we had with her.  We are heartbroken from our loss.

On June 8, 2008 a new Shining Star could be seen in the night sky. Montana was rescued by GDALI in November 10, 2003. He was the most calm and regal pup of his seven brothers and sisters. You could tell he was the thinker of the litter.

On November 15, 2003 Montana, soon to be know as Monty, was adopted by Julie and Gerd who volunteer with GDALI. For the next almost five years he had a wonderful life living in the county. He has such a wonderful loving personality. He love to be with people. Monty was a big boy at over 200 pounds His heart was as big as his body and yet oh so gentle.

Sadly Montana's life was cut short and in the arms of his family he Crossed The Bridge. We say goodbye to Montana. Everyone at GDALI is very saddened by Montana leaving us but we are also grateful to have know him.

On April 28, 2008 Great Dane Assistance League, Inc. lost one of it most recognized ambadassors, Reggie. This big lug of a Dane was present at almost every event. You could also tell Reggis as he would lumber his way over to you just to say hello. Everyone is deeply saddened at that Reggie has left us to what is beyond.
We share the loss with Frank and Pat Benton his Mom and Dad.

We say a very sad goodbye to Hope. She left us because of a serious bloat. The Puppy mill breeding stock that knew no love or happiness, found it when Cheryl and John adopter her. She left us knowing what is was to be happy, loved and cared for. Thank you Hope for touching our lives. We shall never forget you.
