    Louise Peterson
Aspen is an amazingly sweet little Dane puppy. Everyone who meets her comments on what a great disposition she has.

Aspen was relinquished shortly after she was purchased from a breeder when it was discovered she had trouble walking. Indeed, at any pace faster than a walk, she is forced to hop with her hind legs and also has very little control of her tail. After several trips to several local vets, including an Orthopedic specialist and a neurologist, it was discovered that, likely due to a poor diet in her early growth stages, two of Aspen's vertebrae right above her hips are starting to fuse together and this is placing pressure on the cluster of nerves that runs from her spine to her back legs. It also causes her pain and discomfort as well as difficulty in getting around.

The Good News: Aspen is currently on medication to control the pain. Luckily with surgery, the issue with her vertebrae can be corrected and, patience and some therapy, Aspen will no longer be in pain and will retain enough use of her back legs to walk and live a normal life.

The Bad News: In order to see exactly what is going on in there, Aspen will need to have an MRI, the dozens of X-Rays that have already been taken simply don't give enough detail for a surgery to be attempted. They've got to know what's going on in there before they go in. An MRI is not cheap and it's almost certain that she will need the surgery and all told, this little girl needs roughly $6000 worth of medical care.

If you wish to assist the Great Dane Assistance League with Aspen's medical costs, please make checks payable to GDALI and also please reference Aspen as we have set up an account for her care alone. If you wish to donate electronically, please feel free to do so securely via PayPal.
Louise Peterson is very dedicated to Great Danes.

She has donated many of her works of art to Great Dane Rescues to help raise funds.

Please thank her by visiting her site and ordering a sculpture.
